Authorities did not identify the pilot, who radioed Oakland air traffic controllers saying his engine was on fire at 1:25 p.m. Saturday. He then began an approach into Watsonville Municipal Airport, but never made it. Animal Services Department spokesman John Welsh says officers responded to complaints at the Woodcrest area home of Wilson Rojas (ROW'-hoss) and found eight horses, 10 live and three dead pigs, three dogs, a goat, a chicken and a red-beaked parrot. When the Hills got stuck Thursday in their two-wheel-drive pickup truck, they used a cell phone to call for help.
