Woman Faces Jail Time After Daring Dog Rescue
OAKDALE (CBS13) ―
An Oakdale family threatened in their own home after taking care of a lost dog. The threats came from the dog's owner who was then arrested.
Evangeline Arrambide who was playing in front of her Oakdale home was greeted by a friendly surprise.
"I was getting up and a dog ran up to me," says Evangeline.
Her furry friend did not have a collar, so she decided to take him into her home.
"I named him Bones," Evangeline explains.
While Evangeline bought Bones a new collar and some treats, her mom, Aidanna, says she looked for the rightful owner.
Days later, Aidanna says the owner, Elizabeth Sierra, found out that the dog was at her home. Sierra then reportedly stormed into the Arrambide's apartment, pushing Aidanna's son out of the way, grabbing the dog and hurrying out of the apartment.
"You don't come at my door that way and you don't treat my children that way," says Aidanna.
Witnesses say the owner threatened Aidanna, who called Oakdale Police.
"She robbed me and my children of our peace," says Aidanna. "Really sad because I got really attached to the dog."
Police arrested 30-year-old Sierra at her home and charged her with robbery because the collar on the dog was not hers. Her bail was set at $75,000.
"The fact that she pushed the child aside, forced her way into the house and then threatened the homeowner, that's why she ended up with felony charges," police say.
"It's my dog, I didn't come to fight," says Elizabeth.
Arteno Calderon says Sierra is his wife. He also says that the dog's name is actually Lolo.
Calderon says he was there when his wife took the dog back and that his wife never threatened anyone. He also cannot believe her bail was set so high for finding her own dog.
Sierra's original felony charge has been lowered to a misdemeanor.
