State Gov. Website Hacked, Taken Offline

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― A state government website was taken offline after being defaced by computer hackers.

The website for the California Commission on Judicial Performance, a state agency responsible for investigating complaints against judges and judicial referees, was taken over sometime on Saturday.

A hacker calling himself "Iraqi Prince" apparently filled the website with profanity, pictures of a man aiming a high-powered rifle, and criticism directed to America's military presence in Iraq.

After displaying the altered pages for several hours, state officials acknowledged the breach in security and took the website offline Saturday evening.

The people responsible for the changes taunted the site's administrators and claimed that they had taken over the website through a weakness in the website's database. Several links were added some pages that would have sent the user to sites containing illegally-traded files, as well as a forum on a different website.
