San Jose Teacher Suspected Of Being Drunk In Class

SAN JOSE (AP) ― Police say a San Jose elementary school teacher showed up to work drunk.

The woman -- whose name has not been released -- is a teacher at Schallenberger Elementary School. Police were called to the school Friday after the woman's colleagues became concerned she was inebriated and reported her to school officials.

Police say she had a blood alcohol count of more than twice the legal limit of .08.

The woman was not arrested and went home with a school administrator. Schallenberger Elementary Principal Angelic Ruiz says the teacher has been placed on leave pending further investigation.

A spokeswoman for the San Jose Unified School District says a substitute teacher is teaching the woman's class.
