Scratch Your Head: Dina Lohan 'Mom Of The Year'

Lindsay's Mother Gets Honor From Long Island Group That Has Many Wondering If There's A Catch

BETHPAGE, N.Y. (CBS) ― On Tuesday night Lindsay Lohan's mother picked up a controversial award – "Mother of the Year." The honor is raising a lot of eyebrows.

Late night partying, rehab, a front page fiasco. The actress Lohan has developed quite the reputation.

So when it was announced that Lindsay's mother, Dina, was being honored as a top mom by the Long Island organization "Mingling Moms" it got many people wondering: Huh?

"I'm surprised. I'm very delighted. I think she deserves it," said Ann Sullivan, Dina's mother and Lindsay's grandmother.

Sullivan raised the family in a tenement in the Bronx.

How things have changed.

The celebrity mom held her mother's hand through a crowd of photographers Tuesday night. Sullivan spoke to CBS station WCBS-TV in New York City about what the price of fame has cost Lindsay Lohan.

"I think sometimes she doesn't know how to react to the adverse stories. So I think it's a facade," Sullivan said. "And I think she has to, kind of, grow up."

Here's Dina Lohan's take.

"American is way too obsessed with entertainment and my daughter just … it's a job for her," Dina Lohan said. "She just wants to be an actor, a singer, a performer and go home and have her own life. And I think it has become kind of grotesque."

The obsession was clear at Tuesday's event as cameras followed Dina's every move.

"Be nice," she said to reporters. "This is about moms."

Even Lindsay's dad had words for Dina, so much so he called the restaurant to complain she was getting honored.

And so the obsession with Hollywood goes on.

"We live and breathe the same pain every family across the country does," Dina said.
