Retirement Party Planned For Funny Cide
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (CBS) ―
A retirement party is being thrown next week in Saratoga for a horse, of course.
Funny Cide, winner of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, will be the guest of honor at a party planned at Saratoga Race Course.
The seven-year-old gelding became the first New York bred to win the Derby and Preakness when he won the first two Triple Crown races in 2003 before coming in third in the Belmont.
His owners retired him last month and are stabling him this summer at the Saratoga track, not far from the local farm where he was born and raised.
Next Friday's festivities include a party for Funny Cide fans at the track and a poster giveaway and autograph session by the horse's former jockey, Hall of Famer Jose Santos, who announced his own retirement earlier this week.
Funny Cide will make an appearance on the main track during that day's races.
