The Scoop: Library Grand Jury

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― There are some great crime stories here in the library. But is the library itself a great crime story? Maybe so. Sources are telling me that next week, the Sacramento County Grand Jury will release a report that examines allegations of a billing scandal at the Sacramento library system. The report may not be nice summer reading for the library.

Grand Juries operate in secret, and nobody but the jurors know at this point how negative the report will be. But the district attorney has already weighed in on the issue, and is prosecuting a couple of former library workers for allegedly scamming the system.

Library insiders are worried about the Grand Jury blasting library management for letting the scandal to happen. But I hope the Grand Jury remembers who's really to blame whenever there's a crime committed -- the people who do the crime, not the people standing around when it happened. Look for the Grand Jury library report next Thursday.
