The Scoop: The Hatch Act

COMMENTARY (CBS13) ― There is concern in City Hall this week that Mayor Heather Fargo may have violated a federal law called the Hatch Act when she called Police Chief Rick Brazil last week and asked him to go after her challenger, Kevin Johnson.

I'll read from part of the Hatch Act: "Covered state and local employees (that's the mayor) may NOT use official authority or influence to interfere with affect the results of an election or nomination."

The wheels are starting to turn on this, and the Feds take it very seriously. The penalties? Fargo could be removed from office or the city could lose federal funding equal to about $250,000 if any violation is established. I'll have more tomorrow, right here on the Scoop.
