The Scoop: State Budget
It's a law . The state budget has to be finished in a timely manner.
But I have The Scoop on how lawmakers are already saying they're missing the deadline.
It's going to be a siege - insiders are telling me the state's next budget probably won't be finalized by October. That would be more than three months after the law says the budget is due - but we're talking about the governor and lawmakers, and what do they care about the law?
Californians are accustomed to late budgets - they happen all time. Last year, the governor signed the budget on August 24, after a 52-day impasse. And that was before the governor and his legislator buddies realized the state was in a $16 billion hole.
If the October budget becomes reality, it's going to cause a mess like you've never seen. Schools and cities legally have to get their budgets done by July. They rely on the state. Just imagine what will happen when schools open in September and there's no money because the governor and legislators are still squabbling.
