The Scoop: Sacramento Bee Update

COMMENTARY (CBS13) ― It's sad for me to stand out here in front of my old headquarters and see what's happening. I worked here at the Sacramento Bee for 35 years, but the paper I left last year no longer exists. And it's only going to get worse.

The Bee is offering buy-outs to most of its senior reporters – those are the veterans who make up the top wages. The reporters who stay behind will mostly be the younger kids who work for half the wages.

And that's not all. I'm hearing the Bee and other papers are thinking about stopping publication on certain days – like Mondays and Tuesdays – or cutting back the printing schedule. Anything to save money. But when you consider the alternative, five papers a week is better than no papers a week.
