The Scoop: Sacramento Kids Soccer
R.E. Graswich
SACRAMENTO (EDITORIAL) ―
Here's a story about what happens to people who have expectations from their city government. There's a youth soccer league in South Sacramento called Greenhaven. Like other youth leagues, they now have to pay a fee to play their games at city parks. Following me so far?
The Greenhaven soccer president, a guy named Shane Singh, figured his groups should get something for their money. So he asked the city to stripe the boundary lines on the fields. He got an answer no goal, no way.
I've got the letter from the city right here. It says the city can't pay for the chalk because it's trying to save money. Now Mr. Singh watches the Scoop, and knows the city wants to buy a $244,000 bathroom in Old Sacramento and pays over $67,000 a year to drive the mayor around. But a little chalk for the kids? Sorry, we're broke.
