The Scoop: Pistol Packing Jerry?

SACRAMENTO
There are certain things a candidate for governor just doesn't want to talk about. Jerry Brown, the California Attorney General who's looking to enter the governor's race for 2010, will talk about almost anything -- with one big exception.
When the Scoop heard rumors in the law enforcement community that Jerry was packing a pistol underneath his suit jacket, the Attorney General and his office would not respond to my questions.
I know Brown owns a .38 Colt pistol. He admitted owning the gun on his Face Book site, claiming it was a gift from his father, Gov. Pat Brown. I haven't seen a description of Jerry's Colt, but if it's a revolver, it's the same model carried by Wyatt Earp, Billy the Kid and Teddy Roosevelt.
Being Attorney General doesn't automatically qualify Brown to pack a gun. He's not a cop, so if he's packing, he needs a concealed weapons permit.
I checked with the Sheriff's office in Sacramento and Alameda Counties - places where Jerry lives and works. Both said they haven't issued him a concealed weapons license.
Meantime, if you bump into Jerry Brown, be careful. Frisk him. He might be armed.
I'm R.E. Graswich, and that's the scoop!
