The Scoop: Big Savings
By R.E. Graswich
COMMENTARY (CBS13) ―
If you'd been walking here at 12th and K Streets one night last week, you would have seen a light green Crown Victoria parked on the mall, with a man behind the wheel. He was a plainclothes Sacramento police officer in an unmarked car, waiting for Sacramento's former mayor Heather Fargo.
That night, Fargo was having dinner at Ella restaurant here with her friend, City Councilman Rob Fong. This week, Fargo's a private citizen. She's lost her police chauffer service.
Earlier this year, the Scoop told you the mayor's police taxi service cost about $67,000 per year. The new mayor, Kevin Johnson, has a much higher profile, but he's said he doesn't want a cop chauffer. Kevin has an assistant drive him. He pays the guy out of his own pocket.
