The Scoop: No More Clubs On K, For Now
R.E. Graswich
SACRAMENTO
Big changes are coming to the K Street mall in Sacramento. But don't expect any more night clubs, at least for the time being.
Let's start with cars. I've been telling you about vehicle traffic coming back to the K Street Mall. Now I can report that the city manager has staff studying how and when cars can return to lower K Street for the first time since the 1960s.
Get ready for another hotel on K Street, here at the corner of 10th Street. This building used to be a bank, but soon, an all suites hotel will spring up. It's funded and ready to go.
But this empty store front at 11th Street will stay empty. A San Francisco nightclub owner wanted to open a club here, using some city redevelopment money. But he's being chased off by a coalition of local business owners. They think K Street is already saturated with nightclubs.
Let's talk to Randy Paragary, who owns Cosmo restaurant and Social nightclub at 10th and K. Paragary is helping to stop the San Francisco interloper from getting public money to open another club on K Street.
Someday, you will see more nightclubs here on the street that was once the Miracle Mile of Sacramento. But not until the business climate warms up.
