The Scoop: New Parking Meters

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― The City of Sacramento and other likeminded towns are positively giddy over the thought of getting rid of these old-fashioned parking meters. They are installing sidewalk kiosks, and bringing parking enforcement into the 21st century.

They are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on the new machines, which take coins and credit cards and even speak a couple of languages. But as grandpa used to say, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

And speaking of fixing things, here's a brand new parking kiosk at 921 I Street in Sacramento. It's already out of commission – maybe because it runs on solar power and they put it under a shady tree. Oh, and if the address sounds familiar, that's because this broken unit is right in front of City Hall. Ah, the irony!
