The Scoop: YouTube Railyards

COMMENTARY (CBS13) ―
In the good old days, you would look for a knothole in a plywood fence to check out a construction site. Building projects were off-limits. No more. The biggest construction site in Sacramento - the old downtown rail yards - has gone digital with its own Youtube cam.
The rail yard developers came up with the idea of using the internet to keep people updated on the progress of the site. Work has been going on for years, but it's mostly been the removal of toxic dirt, which isn't all that photogenic.
Now they're getting close to actually building stuff out here - an entire community, with shops, homes, restaurants and bars will emerge. The Youtube cam's a hit, with more than 1,000 hits in a few days. Check it out at www.youtube.com/railyards2008.
