The Scoop: Vellanoweth Sues Restaurant

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
I'm here on South Land Park Drive in Sacramento. it's one of the most bucolic neighborhoods in the city, but two years ago in march a man named Roberto Vellanoweth, a political big shot, got drunk, got in his car and killed four people right here.
Even from his prison cell Vellanoweth is pointing fingers. He's filed a lawsuit against a restaurant named the Camino Real. That's where he was drinking. He claims it's all their fault. They secretly got him drunk.
Minutes after the crash, Vellanoweth started blaming others for his mistake. he blamed the victims and he blamed the restaurant, the Camino Real, for putting "something" in his punch.
We tried to contact Vellanoweth's lawyer and the restaurant. Neither responded, but in the civil complaint, Vellanoweth says the restaurant allowed its staff to provide him with a drink that contained alcohol without his knowledge or his consent.
The criminal court jury didn't buy it. They found Vellanoweth guilty on six counts and sent him to prison for seventeen years and eight months. We'll see how the civil matter turns out. In the meantime I've got some advice for mister Vellanoweth: do your time, leave the victims alone.
