A citizens group in Sacramento is taking dead aim at city councilman Ray Tretheway. The group, called Citizens for Accountability, has formally asked the Sacramento police department to investigate Tretheway. The Citizens say Ray allegedly feathered his own nest while working as director of the Sacramento Tree Foundation.
The Citizens thinks Tretheway may have violated several laws by running a group that gets money from the city - while sitting on the city council at the same time. They also claim he sent city business to a political consultant he's been involved with.
I asked Mr. Tretheway several questions about this. He hasn't responded. But the allegations themselves aren't the real story here. The real story is that some local citizens are actually taking it upon themselves to raise serious questions about the people who run their government. Now that's a big breakthrough in these parts.
