The Scoop: Mayoral Security

R.E. Graswich
COMMENTARY (CBS13) ― It became one of the heated campaign issues for Sacramento Mayor: How much the city spent on security for the capitol city's mayor. Tonight, I have the scoop on the city's newest plan, one that brings in some freelance labor to be mayoral muscle.

You have to dress well, be a good wheelman and look good with a gun under your suit jacket. And, if push comes to shove, you have to be willing to lay your life on the line for Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson.

If that kind of work appeals to you, I've got a job for you – the City of Sacramento is looking for freelance security to protect the mayor.

I've got here in my hands documents the city has quietly circulated among executive protection companies – bid requests for the mayor's protection service.

In recent years, the mayor has been driven around by retired cops. That's expensive, and it's caused some grumbling in the ranks by on-duty cops who think they should be doing the job.

So the city is asking for freelance birds. Winners must supply their own SUV, guns, ammo and phones. And you've got to look the part – suit and tie, secret service glasses, and maybe the occasional dinner jacket. Cool discretion is a must.

You've got until June 5 to apply. Good luck.
