The Scoop: Kings Arena Site

COMMENTARY (CBS13) ―  Kings fans hit the roof when I the Scoop reported last week that plans for a new arena at Cal Expo looked like a dead-end road. Judging from the emails and chatters on fan websites, a lot of people were pinning their hopes on Cal Expo.

A few fans suggested I didn't know what I was talking about. Well, this location here on Capitol Mall was supposed to be a high rise condo tower called Aura. People got mad at me last year when I said it would never get built. Today, Aura's a parking lot. So I know what I'm talking about.

The quest for a new arena is stuck in neutral. Once it becomes clear Cal Expo won't fly, there will be lots of talk about the downtown rail yards. But an arena would eat up too much space there. Most of City Hall insiders are betting on North Natomas, next to the current Arco Arena.
