The Scoop: High-Tech Heist

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― Tonight, a Scoop exclusive about an embarrassing theft of high-tech communications equipment - equipment that belonged to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP is not releasing details because the investigation is still underway. But Highway Patrol officials did confirm an outline of the crime to the Scoop:

Thieves recently broke into a secret CHP warehouse in Sacramento and stole some of the Patrol's most valuable tools - high tech communications gear that helps officers track criminals.

We're talking about the latest, top of the line communications and surveillance gear. This is not the kind of stuff the CHP wants to see in the hands of bad guys.

The CHP has been quiet about the theft while trying to track down the bad guys. They have had a task force working to solve the theft, but aren't ready to discuss the results. This is a major crime, and I'll bring you more details as they become available.
