The Scoop: Heavy Agenda
R.E. Graswich
COMMENTARY (CBS13) ―
I spend a lot of time reading agendas for community public meetings. I know, its boring dreary work, but somebody's got to do it. This week's agenda for the Sacramento City Council caught my eye. It's like a phone book, filled with all kinds of stuff from A to Z.
There were forty items on the agenda. Everything from giraffe habitats to a plan to offer buyouts to every person who works for the city. Most of the stuff is on consent which means little or no discussion, but it's a heavy calendar.
So why the December agenda so heavy? Two reasons. First of all the City Council knew Kevin Johnson would win the mayor's race so they wanted to save plenty of work for him. Second, they want to take a month's vacation so they want to rush through all their work. Kinda makes you wonder what would happen if the Sacramento City Council worked this hard all the time.
