The Scoop: Bridge To Nowhere

COMMENTARY (CBS13) ― If you wonder how a city like Sacramento can find itself in a $200 million hole over the next five years, listen up. Here's an example of how government spends – and wastes money. It's the story of Sacramento's Bridge to Nowhere.

This is Gateway Oaks Drive near Interstate 80 in North Sacramento. The city wants to build a foot and bicycle bridge from the canal across the freeway. There's no pressing need for the bridge, but some residents around here think it would be nice.

The foot bridge is budgeted at about $6.5 million. But the truth is, the city has no clue how much it will really cost. That's because the city has to deal with at least 22 species of birds, turtles, snakes, even weeds. And they have to worry about Indian burial grounds.

And yes, you taxpayers are on the hook for it. I'll give you the details in the next
