The Scoop: Armed And Dangerous
R.E. Graswich
COMMENTARY (CBS13) ―
It's a constitutional right, the right to bear arms. But are more people exercising that right? I have the scoop on the trend that has thousands of guns being bought each month, just in Sacramento County. Which begs the question, who out there is armed and dangerous?
People in Sacramento County are arming themselves to the teeth. Each month, about 2,600 guns are sold in the county alone an increase of 40 percent over last summer.
The question is, where do those guns go after they're bought? Do they end up on nightstands or under beds? Are soccer moms packing them in the glove boxes of their mini-vans?
The question has cops concerned. While law enforcement officers respect citizens' rights to arm themselves, cops know what can happen when guns are left lying around they get stolen or go off when you least expect it.
As police agencies cut back under budget pressure and gun sales explode, cops are gearing up for accidental shootings and gun thefts. It may not be convenient, but police say the best place for your gun is locked in a gun safe.
Without a safe, secure place to store your gun, you're playing with fire.
