The Scoop: The Gov's Work Ethic A Campaign Issue

SACRAMENTO (EDITORIAL) ― The governor's race for 2010 has an early theme -- and it involves a story we've been stirring up here on the Scoop. It's the governor's schedule -- the fact that he takes about every third day off and rarely bothers to spend the night in Sacramento.

Lt. Gov. John Garamendi is an early candidate for the governor's job, and he's making Arnold Schwarzenegger's work ethic a campaign issue. "It's time for a governor who's a workhorse, who's willing to put in the long hard hours," Garamendi said in a speech the other day.

When the Scoop broke the story about the governor's calendar, Arnold's public relations people hit the roof and denied he was lazy. They said he was hard at work even while exercising on a treadmill. We'll see how many other candidates make hay out of the governor's work ethic.
