Two More Swine Flu Deaths In Stanislaus County
MODESTO (CBS13) ―
A woman who had just given birth is one of two new Swine flu deaths being reported in Stanislaus County.
The 29-year-old woman who had just had a baby and a 45-year-old woman both died on August 26. Both patients had been in the hospital and bring the total number of Swine flu deaths in Stanislaus County to five.
"We would like to convey our deepest sympathy to the families of these two patients," stated Cleopathia Moore, Associate Director and the Maternal Child and Adolescent Health Director at the Health Services Agency. "We are particularly concerned about pregnant women. It is important that they remain vigilant in protecting themselves from being exposed to the H1N1 virus."
In Stanislaus County, the median age of hospitalized patients is around 30, and over half of them are women. Health officials are especially concerned about women who are pregnant and children under the age of five, who are at higher risk for complications from the flu.
They are reminding pregnant woman and parents to take precautions against the flu including covering coughs and sneezes, washing hands and getting the flu vaccine when it becomes available.
