SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―

Six former Sacramento River Cats players are named in the Mitchell report on baseball and steroids.  F.P. Santangelo, Cody McKay, Adam Piatt, Jack Cust, Jeremy Giambi and Randy Velarde are all named in the scathing report.

F.P. Santangelo who is currently a radio broadcaster in Sacramento is named. The report says Santangelo purchased growth hormone and testosterone from former New York Mets clubhouse attendant Kirk Radomski. The report even includes a copy of a check that Santangelo wrote to Radomski.  It also says Santangelo sent River Cats teammate Adam Piatt to Radomski.

The report says "Piatt and Santangelo played together at Oakland's class AAA affiliate in Sacramento during the 2002 season. Santangelo provided Piatt with Radomski's name and cellphone number in response to an inquiry by Piatt as to where he could get performance enhancing substances. Santangelo told Piatt that Radomski "will get you what you need."

Santangelo declined to respond to Mitchell and his investigators but he did admit to taking human growth hormones last night on KHTK's Sportsline 1140 radio program.

Adam Piatt was interviewed for the report.

In fact, Piatt who played for the River Cats actually contacted the investigators and admitted his use of steroids.  According to the report, "He accepted full responsibility for his actions and said that he had learned an important life lesson as a result. Piatt should be commended for his candor, for his willingness to admit that he made a mistake, and for accepting responsibility for his actions."  Eight checks written to Radomski from Piatt are included in the report.

Jeremy Giambi admitted his steroid use in 2005.  And Randy Velarde admitted his steroid us to a federal grand jury.

Another former River Cat named is Cody McKay.  His name and contact information was listed in the report.  The report says "recalled one additional sale of steroids to McKay, which he believed probably occurred in 2002 while McKay was playing for Oakland's class AAA affiliate in Sacramento."  Cody McKay also declined to be interviewed by the steroid committee.

Also named is Jack Cust.  The report says Cust told another teammate he had tried steroids and had a source who could get him anything he wanted.  Cust declined to be interviewed for the report.
