Russia-Georgia Conflict Sparks Cold War Fears

Georgia, a U.S. ally whose troops have been trained by American soldiers, launched a major offensive August 8, 2008, against Russian forces looking to regain control of breakaway province South Ossetain. At least 1,000 people have died so far, according to officials, and casualties are expected to rise.
