Bear Cub Rescued By Firefighters

"Li'l Smokey" was rescued by a firefighter Thursday, July 17, in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest west of Redding. He is suffering from serious burns on his paws and was dehydrated, but the cub is expected to do just fine. Russia-Georgia Conflict Sparks Cold War Fears

Georgia, a U.S. ally whose troops have been trained by American soldiers, launched a major offensive August 8, 2008, against Russian forces looking to regain control of breakaway province South Ossetain. At least 1,000 people have died so far, according to officials, and casualties are expected to rise.

Isaac Hayes, singer, songwriter and musician was best known for his "Theme From Shaft" that won Academy and Grammy awards. He also was the voice of Chef on the television show "South Park." Hayes died at his home on Aug. 10, 2008. He was 65.
