The Scoop: Bigger May Be Better
R.E. Graswich
COMMENTARY (CBS13) ―
They've been called gas guzzlers, even urban assault vehicles, but is that SUV you were eyeing too much for your wallet to handle? I have the scoop on how high gas prices mean you should buy that new SUV.
If you're looking for a new car, boy, do I have a deal for you. There's never been a better time to step up to that SUV or truck you've been dreaming about. They are practically giving away these gas guzzlers, making it worth your while to consider buying one.
Everybody is complaining about paying over $4 for a gallon of gas, and a lot of people think it's insane to buy a vehicle that only gets 15 miles per gallon. But if you do the math, you'll see a hybrid won't save you much money. In fact, it may cost you more.
If you drive less than 10,000 per year, an SUV will only cost you a few hundred bucks a year more in gas than a car that gets 30 miles per gallon. But that fuel-efficient car will cost way more to buy, because they are in such demand. Sometimes, bigger is better.
