The Scoop: Gang Tax Update

COMMENTARY (CBS13) ― Raising taxes to flight gangs, it's an idea Sacramento County is considering. But I have the scoop on why he thinks it's doomed to fail.

There's been a heated debate in Sacramento County over a proposal to raise taxes to fight gangs. County Supervisor Roger Dickinson wants to put the tax hike on the November ballot, but his idea looks dead in the water.

Let me explain why Roger's plan is a loser from the start. It's a classic example of a politician begging for money, without telling you exactly how or where the money will be used. It's Roger saying, "Trust me to do the right thing."

Everybody knows the Sacramento Valley has a gang problem. But throwing money into Roger's pot is not going to stop gang violence. The plan lacks a specific law enforcement component – more cops on the street – and that's why the idea is dead on arrival.
