The Scoop: Arena Plan

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― It looked like a rare defeat for the Scoop the other day, when Cal Expo said it was moving forward with talks to build an arena at the State Fair for the Kings. I've been telling you the talks were all but dead, that the deal doesn't pencil out. But guess what? I'm sticking to my story. It won't pencil out, period.

Here's what's really going on. These talks are being run by consultants, and consultants don't get paid unless they keep the talks open. Consultants can talk all day and build nothing, but they still get paid. They will extend this chatter as long as possible. That's how they pay the rent.

The real issue is Cal Expo. The State Fair is failing. It's got to sell some property, downsize, reinvent itself, or go out of business. The demise of the State Fair is the real story. And that's the story I'll be following for you here on the Scoop.
