Save With Dave: Wedding Dress Rentals
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
Budget-conscious brides in search of a gown are discovering what grooms knew long ago, something borrowed may be the way to go.
Newlywed Holly Medina vowed to her wedding on budget.
"I love it! It's perfect!" she exclaims.
So perfect, she modeled the dress she wore for us, she estimates saving about $3000 by renting her wedding dress.
"To me, I can't see spending that much on one piece of clothing I'm going to wear one day. I can't," she explains.
Holly's not alone. Brides-to-be crowd into Alexandria's Formal Gown rentals in Sacramento. Walking down these aisles can help you save hundreds.
"You're looking at $249. That includes the dress, the shoes, necklace, bracelet, veil, your tiara, slip and shawl, and your bustier," says Giselle Holman, who works at the store.
In-house alterations and dry cleaning are also included. The stores stocks more than 2800 wedding dresses, some private labels, and all purchased new before going on the showroom floor.
And with the money she saved, Holly and her husband were able to splurge on catering and drinks at their wedding and take a trip to Las Vegas.
"It's definitely worth it," says Holly.
And she'll always have to pictures to remember the dram dress on her big day.
The Bridal Association of America says the average wedding dress costs $1500. If you rented your wedding dress for $249, you would save $1,251 and that includes accessories.
