Save With Dave: How To Make Money Off Old Gadgets

More Save With Dave Stories

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― Most of us can't live without it, our cell phones. And you probably have several old ones lying around at home. So how can you get rid of them and make some money too?

"If you had an iPod, an old cell phone and you don't have any use for it anymore, you can come to secondrotation.com, answer a few questions about the product and then we give you an offer," explains Rousseau Aurelien, CEO of SecondRotation.com.

The website SecondRotation.com allows you to cash in on your old gadgets. They take cell phones, laptops, gaming consoles, digital cameras, MP3 players, camcorders and GPS devices.

The trade-in value is based on the current market for that product. Once you agree to it, you print out a shipping label and send it off. Then, you'll get paid by check or Paypal in seven to ten days. But, what about the data on your gadgets?

"We actually are paranoid about that, we feel like it will only take one incident for us to lose or reputation. So, because of that, we really are strict about erasing data from the products that come in," says Aurelien.

If your gadget isn't worth anything, at least you can recycle it.

Aurelien tells us more than half of their customers are from California, and funny enough, they've already had people trade in their iPhone.

With the example we showed you, you'd save $139.
