Save With Dave: How Viewers Save

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― We found people in our area discovering all kinds of ways to stretch their dollar.

One of the first things people tend to give up when the budget gets tight is eating out. Some people told us they save money by fixing meals at home instead of heading to restaurants.

"I pack my own lunch everyday," says Cipriano Garcia. "Saves about $7 or $8 a day."

"Don't rent movies, don't order pizza, cook at home more," says Nina Dollarhide. "I'm a newlywed so I'm cooking at home more for the first time."

Brad Fowler from West Sacramento says he saves money by looking for the cheapest gas, even if that means driving a few extra blocks. Brad also cuts his grocery bill in half by shopping at discount grocery stores.

Bottom line: People told us you have to be a smart shopper, looking for any way possible to save some cash.

"Coupons, ask for a discount," says Nina. "They may not say they give discounts but it doesn't hurt. I'm a bargainer."

By making his lunch and taking it to work every day, Cipriano is saving about $160 a month.
