Save With Dave: Meal Swaps
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
With our busy lives, it's hard to have a home cooked meal every night. But there is a way to eat at home every night and only cook one night a week.
Planning and cooking meals for your family every day can be tiring, time consuming and expensive. So, it's time to get creative!
Kelli Luck, a mother of two is cooking not just for her family, but two other families as well.
Cooking one night a week as part of a meal sharing concept Kelli created two years ago.
The menus are agreed upon for the month, leftovers are eaten on Wednesday nights, and if a family isn't crazy about a certain meal, honesty is the best policy.
"It's not that big of a deal to tell someone it's not a hit, let's try something else," says Kelli.
This evening Kelli is making chicken tostadas.
"What I do is write items on post-its and stick them on dishes," she says.
Meals are delivered around 5 pm.
Its Katie's night off from cooking, so rather than spending hours in the kitchen, she's spending time with her three kids.
It costs about $80 a week.
If a family of four goes out even three nights a week, that'll easily cost upwards of $120. So, you would save at least $40 a week, and your time is priceless.
