Call Kurtis: Bride,Groom Wedding Location Closes
Business Dispute Sends Couples Scrambling
ROCKLIN (CBS13) ―
Timberly Belk and her fiance Ben are five weeks from their wedding day. Belk says she's been looking forward to it since she was a little girl.
They learned the Zinfandel Grille at the Rocklin Park Hotel shut down June 30th.
"I was just a wreck", said Belk. "I was crying off and on all day."
They already paid $2100 to have their wedding here in the rose garden, and a reception inside the restaurant. They couldn't afford to pay another venue.
"I'm still trying to figure out how to make it work for her so she can have her day" fiancé Ben told Kurtis.
Debbie Masciovecchio and her fiance Paul also planned a wedding here. Seven weeks out, the invitations are already in the mail, and Debbie panicked.
"Are we going to find a place?, Debbie told Kurtis. "It's seven weeks and it's not very long".
Patti Diamond's daughter Sara who lives in North Carolina already inked a deal at the Zinfandel Grille for her September wedding.
"This is supposed be the happiest days of their life, and all the brides are freaking out" Diamond told Kurtis.
We learned the Zinfandel Grille was a tenant of the Rocklin Park Hotel.
A business dispute between the two ended with a court settlement. The Zinfandel Grille agreed to move out by June 30th.
The brides and grooms-to-be say no one seemed to have answers about what would happen to their weddings, with both businesses pointing the finger at each other.
On Tuesday, Zinfandel Grille CEO James Regan promised us he'd help find another venue. If the couples wanted, he promised them a refund.
"If they'd like their money back", Regan said "most definitely".
Some couples like Timberly and Ben said they still want to get married at the Grille.
Wednesday night, the Rocklin Park Hotel held a meeting. Hotel partner Robert Leach told the dozens in the room, "Our goal is to honor the contracts."
He said if they want to have the weddings at the hotel, they will.
Leach said he'll recoup the money from Regan later.
"We would hope that we get the money back in the long term", Leach said. "In the short term we want to make sure no one gets the short end of the stick".
While getting fitted in her wedding gown, Timberly said she and Ben are relieved.
"It's just a huge weight off my shoulders. I'm just really happy things are going to go through the way it should now".
The Zinfandel Grille in Rocklin is not related to the Zinfandel Grille's in Gold River, Folsom or Sacramento.
