Call Kurtis: Case Closed #19

We Look At Four More Cases Handled By The Call Kurtis Volunteer Crew

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― THE CASE OF THE SECURITY ALARM SYSTEM
Sacramento Senior Elsie Berumen had a Monitronics Alarm System, with a one-year monitoring contract. She wanted to sell her house, and cancel the monitoring. Monitronics said she had to pay the $700.00 balance. "They wouldn't work with her. She was told they were going to get the money one way or the other and so she was frustrated and upset and called us." Volunteer Lisa took the issue directly to management. "Effective July 1st, her account was cancelled." Saving Elsie her $700.00 and closing her case.

THE CASE OF THE CELL PHONE REFUND
Jessie Syas bought a phone through Jitterbug and wasn't happy with it. He tried to return it within the 30-days allowed and was told no refund. Volunteer Chuck took the case. He had Jessie send a certified letter and that's all it took. Jessie got his $206.00 back closing his case.

THE IDENTITY THEFT
In January Kristina Comfer's bank debit card was missing. She contacted Washington Mutual and had the account flagger. But in February the bank removed the hold and that's when the thieves cleaned her out taking a total of $7000.00. Volunteer Jan says Kristina did all the right stuff, but no one was listening. "I in tern called the bank for her and the bank in fact told her that if I hadn't gotten involved, they weren't going to do anything for her." But after Jan's
Involvement Washington Mutual reimbursed Kristina her $7000.00, closing her case.

THE PEST CONTROL CONTRACT
Finally we end with Barbara Mertz and her pest control contract. Barbara had a one year contract with Bell Pest Control, but wasn't very happy with her service. She says the salesman told her she could cancel with a 30-day notice. "It does say on the contract, you do have to pay a $199.00 cancellation fee if you cancel before the one year is up." Volunteer Lisa spoke with the owner and he did not want an unhappy customer. So the parties agreed the service would be cancelled for $50.00, saving Barbara $149.00 and c losing her case. "It makes you feel really good and a simple thank you makes it all worth the drive down here each week. I love it."

That closes four more cases. Getting results and solving your problems.
