Save With Dave: Museum Deals
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
In general, it's cheaper for a family visit a museum than go to a movie. But here are a couple of ways to make it an even better bargain.
General admission for the Crooker Art Museum in downtown Sacramento is $6. But, if you go on Sundays between 10 a.m. and one in the afternoon, it's free thanks to the sponsorship of Bank of America.
"What we like people to take away from this is to come enjoy the art, be inspired, be inspired to create something and really enjoy what the city has to offer in this museum," says one museum employee.
A lot of popular spots, including the Sacramento History Museum and the Towe Auto Museum offer 2-for-1 admission coupons. You'll find them in places like "Clipper" magazine and Entertainment books.
But the best deal of all may be on the first Saturday every February. That's when 25 of Sacramento's museums open their doors and let everyone in free of charge.
"On a typical Saturday, we might get anywhere from 500-800, for Museum Day, we've gotten around 5,000 people in one day."
But if you don't want to wait for that one day a year, there are at least nine museums in Sacramento where the admission is free. The list includes that state capitol museum inside the capitol.
If you take advantage of free Sundays at the Crooker, and use coupons at two other museums, a family of four would save about $40 on admissions.
