Save With Dave: Save $975 A Year With 'Texthog'
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
Do you ever wonder where all your money goes? Experts agree keeping a budget is key to building your savings and reaching your financial goals. The tough part is having the discipline to stick it out.
The afternoon latte, a magazine or a new lipstick, expenses many of us don't even think about. Now keeping track of what's leaving your wallet is as easy as sending a text or an email from your phone with a free service called 'Texthog.'
Sean Corbett is working on an internet startup, so money is tight; he uses Texthog to keep track of all his businesses and personal expenses.
"You don't have to carry receipts, you don't have to come back and enter it somewhere else," says Sean.
It's almost replacing those old check registers with your phone. Every time Sean buys something, like coffee on the way to his Cambridge office, he sends the amount to Texthog with his phone.
Texthog will categorize your spending, and total it daily, monthly and yearly. It will also notify you when you are going over your budget or when a bill is due.
Kaplan says seeing what you spend every month on that latte could be a real motivator.
For Sean, it makes managing his finances a whole lot easier.
Right now there's no charge for Texthog, Kaplan says as long as it's free it may be worth a try.
The benefit is cutting expenses you didn't know you spent. Cut back on one cup of coffee a day, spread through the year, literally would save you $975 a year!
