Save With Dave: Tips To Save Money While Shopping

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― Believe it or not, what you buy may not be as important for saving as where it is in the store.

Shopping doesn't have to hurt that pocketbook so much! Biz-rate.com has five ways to save when you go to the store; it just takes a little work on your part. First, stay in the outer part of the store. The meats, produce and such are all here. In the middle aisles are all the junk and processed foods, and those cost you!

Second, watch the store shelves! The highest priced items are at chest level. Kneel down and you'll often find those cheaper house-brands and they usually taste the same.

Third, eat before shopping. If you're hungry you'll buy more. The corollary to this rule is don't take the kids. The "little helpers" can lead to bigger bills.

Fourth, grab the weekly ads or check for those online coupons. You can save a lot on even brand names if they're marked down.

Last? Always send in for that rebate. That goes for department stores, too. For the few cents postage you can still get back anywhere from $2 to $50, and it all adds up!

For a lot of people, the average grocery bill is as high as two hundred dollars a week.

You can save up to 10 percent on your bill or more, with these tips, saving you about $20 a week.
