Save With Dave: Recycling Electronics
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
Recycling isn't just for bottles and cans. The big retailers are now helping keep landfills free for electronics.
Best Buy is just one retailer with in-store recycling bins used of electronics. And online, you can send in used goods for a gift card. Just type in the specifics of your computer, camera, iPod etc. to find out its value.
Then you mail your item back with a free pre-paid shipping label and apply its value toward any Best Buy purchase, which could be worth hundreds.
"People can do this, we can get rid of it or recycle it in a very environmentally friendly way, which is what we're all concerned about right now," says one Best Buy representative.
Circuit City online does the same thing and other retailers are following suit.
If you want to skip the middle man and go to eztradein.com, and they'll send you a Paypal gift card.
Also, this is good for the environment because as Circuit City's trade in page says," good for your wallet, good for your world."
So we did a little estimating, and let's say you send in a laptop and an older model iPod Nano.
You can get back about $150, and then you may want to put that towards some upgraded models.
