Save With Dave: Buying To Save

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― It seems counter-intuitive. In order to save money, you can't buy anything. But that's not always the case. In tonight's Save with Dave, how you can spend money to save it.

According to savingadvice.com, there are ten things you should get in order to save you some cash.

First, a programmable thermostat. A program keeps the temperature steady and the AC doesn't have to work so hard.

Secondly, a faucet aerator. It decreases the amount of water out of your faucet and you use half the water you'd use now.

Third, a compact fluorescent bulb. Sure, they cost more, but you save ten bucks for every hundred watt bulb you replace.

Fourth, re-chargable batteries. Cameras and games use a lot of them but recharge and save a lot of money.

Sixth, a safety deposit box. Have a fire or other catastrophe and all your irreplaceable items are safe, saving time and money.

Seventh, a clothesline, if you can. Hanging your clothes will save you up to $100 a year over a dryer.

Eighth, a water filter. If you habitually buy bottled water, a water filter and a washable bottle will save you a ton of money on water bottles.

Ninth, low-flow shower heads. It saves water, but you save about $100 a year!

Last but not least, number ten. If you buy a lot of retail stuff, buy anything that's on sale. Never buy full-price, but look for that red sticker. Just because it's out first, doesn't mean you need it.

Some of these might be harder to use, like a clothesline or thermostats, if you rent, but you can always ask your landlord, that doesn't cost anything.

So if you bought all the ideas that were in today's segment, you'd save $867 a year!
