Save With Dave: Meal Stretching
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
I took a walk around West Sacramento to see how you make meals last and in turn keep extra cash in your pocket.
We all shell out cash for food. But with a little creativity you can make the most of your meals.
"Make larger meals, spaghetti lasts for three days," says April Brown.
Things like rice, pasta, potatoes and veggies will help make your meals last.
But what if you're not keen on cooking?
Patsy Snowden says she still finds ways to save.
"I do mean stretching techniques by buying prepared food at the store and make that last for a couple of days, I hate to cook!" Patsy says.
But how much money could you actually save?
"In one meal you could spend about ten or twelve dollars, you could stretch it out to two lunches and two meals," explains Dolly Davee.
"Maybe a couple of bucks a meal, but if you add that up over time, it equals a lot of money. I figure if you can save a little money along the way then maybe you can use that to splurge later on," explains Cynthia Basinger.
If you took the steps that Cynthia does, you would save about two dollars a day. It may not sound like a lot, but within a year you would save $728, just by stretching your meals.
