Save With Dave: $75 Off At Home Depot

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― Here are a couple of ways to save on power tools and holiday decorations. It's part of a recycling effort by Home Depot.

Most of you probably have one of these things at your house: an old drill or a strand of tangled Christmas lights. If you act fast, they could be your ticket to a sweet discount.

It's almost time to get out the Christmas lights. Maybe a couple strands don't work anymore or maybe they're just a tangled mess that you don't want to deal with. Either way, if you haven't made the switch to LED lights yet, now is a good time.

"These use 80-90% less energy," said Ben Lister, West Sacramento Home Depot store manager, referring to LED lights. "They last up to 20,000 hours, whereas an incandescent will only last about 3,000 hours."

On top of the eco-friendly reasons, Home Depot has a great deal going on. Between now and November 15, bring in your old lights to be recycled and for each one, you'll get a coupon for $3 off a set of LED lights. You can get up to five coupons.

"We've made a statement that Home Depot has come out with eco options and are trying to make a bigger impact on making less of an impact into our environment," said Ben.

And if the handyman -- or woman in your family is in need of a new drill, look no further. Drop off any old drill between now and Sunday and you can get 15 percent off a new lithium-ion drill.

"The great thing is we're recycling these, sending them off to a recycler. [It's] great for the environment. And then you get to use a lithium ion drill which is much better for the environment. The charge is better and it takes half as long to charge up, and it's a lot lighter in weight," said Ben.

The drills cost between $80 and $40, so 15 percent off means up to $60 in savings. Combine that with the $15 in lights coupons and you can save a total of $75 on Home Depot's recycling programs.
