Save With Dave: GPS Phone Cheap Gas Tools
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
Rising gas prices are pretty much at the top of most people's complaints these days. I'll show you an easy way to reduce your pain at the pump.
Those outrageous gas prices are here to stay. Now, technology is helping us save some dough.
"Gone are the days of having to drive around and find the cheapest gas near you, it's right at your fingertips," said Brooke Burgess, AT&T spokesperson.
AT&T recently came out with The Navigator, It's a GPS phone that includes a fuel finder.
"I'm going to search for the cheapest gas within a 15 mile radius," said Brooke.
Brooke does a search and finds the cheapest station near her is $4.37. The navigator is free for the first 30 days. After that, it's $9.99 a month.
Verizon Wireless also has a similar GPS feature on its phones called "VZ Navigator 4.0." The service is also 9.99 a month.
For phones without gps the mobile fuel finder is just $1.99 a month.
AT&T says with its Fuel Finder service, GPS usage is up 62 percent since January.
"It more than pays for itself, if you think about it.. You're saving a couple of cents per gallon. That adds up," said Brooke.
If the Fuel Finder saves you about $.10 cents a gallon every time you fill up, if you bought 45.76 gallons of gas -- that's about $200 worth -- a month at $4.37 instead of $4.47, savings is $4.58 a month. In one year, that's $54.93 in savings.
And, if you spend about $200 dollars a month on gas, in one year you'd save $54.93.
