Save With Dave: Grocery No-No's
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
Everyone's trying to save a buck. Tonight I'll show you five ways that could slash your grocery bill by 40 percent.
We all have ways to save money at the grocery store, but many common shopping practices could end up costing you according to Women's Day and myrecipes.com.
Take coupons.
"I get coupons off the internet, I clip them out of the newspaper," says one consumer.
Saving a dollar is a good thing, but not if the item is more expensive than its competitors, or if you don't need it.
"That's a problem I find with the coupons cause I don't use half of the things," says one shopper.
Also watch out for sale signs. Often a bargain isn't really a bargain; grocery stores just want to grab your attention. Like offering ten soda packs for $10. That might be a sale, but not if you're buying more than you can drink.
And Women's Day says shoppers with lists actually end up spending 41 percent more than those without.
Also, buy the store brand. Taste tests show most people don't know the difference between that and name brand.
And last but nit least, double check the checkout. Scanners aren't always updated correctly.
It's important that you also avoid those impulse buys that are on the endcaps. If your average bill is a $100 at the store, we'd save you $40 by just using one of those hints!
