Save With Dave: VenJuvo

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― It might be there in the house -- electronics you don't use, or maybe an mp3 player that's obsolete. It's useless, right? Think again!

"People will be surprised if they start looking around their homes how much value they have laying around," said Derek Harp, CEO of VenJuvo.

VenJuvo is a web-based company who takes your slightly-used products for trade.

"Trade in, trade up is kind of our name for that, and that's absolutely what someone could do," Harp said.

Here's how it works: Take something like the iPhone. It's not the new one, but VenJuvo would pay about $240 for it. They pay shipping, you just print out a mailer, put your gadget in a box and they either give you cash or store credit from a partner like Kmart. Then you can go buy that new iPhone you've been wanting.

"Not too far back in time, somebody would have had an item for many, many years before they might wanted to resell it. But now, people haven't had the items very long when they're already wanting a new version," Harp said.
