Save With Dave: Money Saving Travel Tips
If you're planning your summer vacation, watch out for unexpected costs while traveling.
Yes, and I found out a little research goes a long way.
"Plane travel is really expensive --you have to plan accordingly," said Daniel Dursutt, passenger. "When you count wear and tear on your car, plus hotel, I think we definitely saved money."
Taking a summer vacation is not cheap. In fact, this passenger found packing extra bags cost her a lot of money!
"I would have consolidated bags because I actually had to pay for two bags. It was $125 extra," said Amara Johnson, passenger. "I'm a big fan of buying over the internet--it's easier--i got to book my ticket a week before I left and it was still only $300."
If you're staying in a hotel room, here's some advice when booking online.
"I think you can find rates on the internet as long as you spend time doing it and know what you're doing," said Jenny Suidan, passenger.
And simply staying with friends or family can also save you big bucks.
Checking two extra bags can cost you $100 for a round trip.
If you can check only one bag, that's a total savings of $50.
