It's a holiday gift card like none other. It's from the city of Elk Grove.
The Elk Grove City Council is voting Wednesday on giving people $50 holiday gift cards only good at stores within the city limits. The catch is that you have to spend $500 at Elk Grove stores and prove it with sales receipts to get the $50 gift card.
The idea is to keep people shopping in Elk Grove.
"You know we're looking at throwing the spaghetti against the wall, seeing what sticks, trying something new," said Elk Grove Mayor Pat Hume.
The gift cards would be funded with $10,000 of city funds.
